I have the honour to enclose sopy of a letter which
I addressed to the Major General Commanding the Troops in
Hongkongon the subject of Tuason and Sampedro of this city.
I believe that the 6.6. "Kafue" har goods on board
consigned to the Philippine Hot and Braid Memufacturing Co.
and I venture to suggest that a strict investigation be made
into the real ownership of the õarge before permitting
transhipment to this port.
Said
I understand that the cargo ex £.£. "Kafum" i# ooming
forward by the s.6. "City of Durban", It will in my opinion
be necessary to secure certificates from the American Consul
General in Hongkong identifying the cargo. It would also be
advisable for the "City of Durham" to carry a certificate
bearing also the signature of the American Consul-Gerørel
showing how she came to have the said cargo on board as the
Manila Customs manifest will show that the said sergo ought
to arrive by the 5.5. Kafus and they may question the presenc
of the cargo on board the "City of Durham".
I have &c.,
(SD.) John B. Rentiers,
H. B. M. Consul-Generat.
